Begin with one washed and dried strawberry

Using a paring knife, cut off stem in a “v” shape, round tops of strawberry using knife.

Slice strawberry in half.

Slice halves into halves. You should now have 4 pieces (if you have fairly small strawberries you may only be able to get 2 pieces).

Cut sides from strawberries to remove rounded edge.

Use to decorate cupcakes/cake, frosted sugar cookies, cheesecake, mousse, pies, pastries etc.

Kim: Just curious, I was thinking of trying to do this heart on the top of a cupcake for a wedding. Did you have any problem with the juice from the berry leaching and making the frosting runny? I was hoping to frost the cakes around 2-3pm for a 4pm wedding so they would be sitting about 3 hours before they get eaten. May 17, 2013 at 1:43pm
Jaclyn: Yes the strawberries will begin to break down if they rest on the frosting that long, I’d cut and add them just before serving. May 17, 2013 at 3:43pm
