For the past little while I’ve been trying to focus on feeding my family healthier meals. Meals which are more balanced and full of fresh, unprocessed ingredients. It can be challenging and requires a lot of trips to the store for those fresh ingredients. What if I told you there was a program available to receive ready to prepare, wholesome meals delivered right to your door step? Well, have you guys heard of Blue Apron yet? They make it much easier to achieve this goal for my family and I, and I’ve already tried three meals they’ve sent and each and everyone was delicious!

So, you are likely asking what is Blue Apron and what is it all about? Let’s break it down and give you am idea of the ease of this program and how incredibly awesome it is! Blue Apron is an opportunity to sign up and receive farm fresh ingredients delivered right to your home to prepare top notch, restaurant quality meals at home for you and your family. Each meal includes nutritious, good for you ingredients and everything included comes in exactly the right proportions. Which equals no wasted ingredients and less time consuming trips to the grocery store. I can’t even tell you how excited I was to receive this perfectly fresh food right to my doorstep! When can I sign up for lunch and breakfast meals too :)?

Blue Apron offers two types of plans, the 2-Person Plan and Family Plan. The Family Plan is perfect for feeding a family of four. With this plan you can opt to receive one or two deliveries per week, each delivery consisting of two meals to be served family-style. The Family Plan is great for a family of four eating full portions, or a family with three or four younger kids eating smaller portions – or any combination of less people looking for leftovers! The price for this plan is $8.74 per meal, or $69.92 per eight serving delivery. Shipping is always free!
The 2-Person Plan will set you up with one delivery a week, each with three inventive meals for two. The price for this plan is $9.99 per meal, or $59.94 per six serving delivery. Shipping is always free!

Each menu is between 500 – 700 calories per person and all meals can be prepared in 40 minutes or less! In my opinion, it was the perfect portioned dinner and I was definitely full after each meal. One thing I loved about Blue Apron is that their ingredients were fresher than what I find at my local grocery stores, and also they sent hard to find ingredients which aren’t even sold at my local grocery stores. They source of their ingredients is from quality local suppliers and artisans, so you can feel confident about what you are eating.

I’m kind of camera shy but I seriously had so much fun making (and of course eating) these meals!

I’m completely in love with this meal! It was my favorite of the three. It’s the Blood Orange-Roasted Salmon. I. Want. More!

Blue Apron meals are delivered in a refrigerated box so ingredients will stay fresh even if you’re not at home when your package arrives. I love how they offer a large selection of recipes and that they are always adding new dishes to their menu every week. These are packed with flavor, and just the right balance of flavors. Nothing too bold and overpowering and just what you’d expect (and then some) from a perfect dinner meal. You’ll feel like a professional chef each time you prepare their recipes (with each meal they send a recipe card that coordinates with the ingredients sent. And with each recipe card you’ll find step-by-step photos of the dish included, which can be incredibly helpful no matter your skill level in the kitchen).

If you are wondering why they chose the name “Blue Apron,” it is because chefs in training around the world wear blue aprons, it is a symbol of lifelong learning in cooking. Blue Apron lets you learn to make new recipes and cuisines so you don’t get out of that rut you might likely find yourself in of making the same old dinners or relying on take out. Receiving and making these meals will continue to teach you a thing or two in the kitchen. I myself kept picking up helpful tips with each meal I made, like to cover the chicken with foil then set a pot of water over it so that it cooks faster and more evenly.

And they don’t just stop at food and recipes, you can even find high quality kitchenware and products in the Blue Apron market (here) to prepare and cook these delicious meals in!

There are many more Blue Apron recipes I’d love to try like the Maple Glazed Turkey Breast, Caramelized Onion and Heirloom Tomato Crostata, Salmon Burgers, and the Lemon Parsley Chicken Thighs. So many too choose from!

  • Laura (Tutti Dolci): I’ve heard about Blue Apron but haven’t had the chance to try it; these dinners look great! January 26, 2015 at 2:46pm Reply

  • Angela Muller: Well, at first I thought I would find the recipes for those delicious looking dinners. While I can appreciate having all the ingredients sent to me, with the proper nutritional values and calories, it would be a dream because I’m guessing I would not be able to afford the Family Plan for dinners with all the other grocery shopping that needs to happen each week. Good to know Blue Apron exists, but not financially practical for me. January 26, 2015 at 2:57pm Reply

  • Julia@Vikalinka: That chicken ramen looks absolutely gorgeous! I don’t know if there is a better colour combo than that vibrant yellow of the yolk and pretty greens next to it. Love seeing your photo close-up, Jaclyn. Beautiful girl! January 27, 2015 at 2:18am Reply
