Easy Peanut Butter Granola

Are you ready for the easiest granola recipe of your life? Seriously, I don’t know if granola gets any easier than this! This is not only the easiest granola I’ve ever made, but it also baked faster than any granola I’ve made.

I made a few batches of this peanut butter granola trying to get the recipe just right. I tried to do a 3-ingredient homemade granola on the first attempt. While it was good, with the lack of brown sugar it just didn’t have enough crunch. So, on attempt two I added in brown sugar and not only did it give it a little crunch, but it also added a nice flavor too.

This is a healthy and kid-friendly granola recipe and is one the whole family can enjoy. With how easy it is to make and the fact that it uses basic pantry staples that you likely always have, this might just become a regular in your home.

Serve it with almond milk or Greek yogurt and some fresh fruit and you’ve got a breakfast worth waking up for. Enjoy!

Peanut Butter Granola Ingredients

This easy peanut butter granola uses just 4 basic ingredients:

  • Old fashioned oats
  • Creamy peanut butter
  • Honey
  • Brown Sugar

How to Make Granola

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Pour oats into a mixing bowl, set aside.
  • In a microwave-safe mixing bowl, combine peanut butter, honey and brown sugar and heat mixture in microwave until runny and smooth, about 25 seconds.
  • Pour mixture over oats in mixing bowl and toss mixture with a spatula until evenly coated.
  • Spread mixture onto a Silpat or parchment paper-lined baking sheet into an even layer and bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 18 – 20 minutes, stirring once halfway through baking.

Can I Use Another Type of Oat?

No, only old fashioned oats will work in this peanut butter granola recipe. Instant or steel cut oats would result in a different texture and may not cook properly in the oven.

How to Store Granola

Keep this homemade peanut butter granola in an airtight container on your counter. It will keep for up to a week this way.

You can also freeze granola in a freezer baggie for up to 3 months. Just let the granola rest on your countertop for 10 minutes before eating it.

How to Eat Granola

There are so many delicious ways to enjoy this easy granola! A few of my favorite ways to eat granola are:

  • With milk and berries
  • Atop yogurt
  • With peanut butter and apples
  • On top of smoothie bowls
  • As a trail mix (just mix it with some dried fruit and nuts)
  • …and more!

Tips for the Best Peanut Butter Granola

  • If you want one more layer of flavor, you can add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, but personally I don’t think it needs it.
  • Let the granola cool completely before eating it. It crisps up as it cools!
  • Make sure to stir the granola halfway through the baking time, otherwise it might not bake evenly.

I really want to try this, but was wondering if these could be made into granola bars?

Possibly, I haven’t tried yet so I can’t say for sure sorry. It seems like it might need a little more something to hold them together.

I was wondering if you could substitute agave nectar for the honey? (I happen to be out of honey at the moment)
    Thanks

It might work but it does bake up differently than honey so it might not offer the same crunch. Sorry I wish I could say for sure with this recipe, I just haven’t tested that yet.

Since I had the ingredients on hand to make two batches, I made the peanut butter (and will admit to liking it better uncooked!) and experimented with a batch using Nutella. I subbed dark Karo syrup for the honey, Nutella for the PB, ncluded the brown sugar and added semi-sweet mini chocolate chips. I didn’t realize that Nutella’s melting properties aren’t the same as PB (it required longer heating, quick stirring, pouring and mixing with the oats. I used my hands with both recipes to make sure the binder was distributed amongst the oats. It came together more solidly and I had to break it apart. Next time I’ll add the chips during the cooling stage. Can’t wait for my older son and husband to get home to try them.

Glad you were able to make it work Victoria! Thanks for the info!

Came here by way of Pinterest. While I would love this and will make it for me, my older son hates all nut butters, except Nutella. Would that work as a substitute OR can I double the honey and leave it out (making it a 3 ingredient granola)?

Can you use quick oats instead of old fashioned oats? I only have quick oats right now but I really want to make this!

I wouldn’t recommend it – it will probably have a different texture. I could be wrong though because I’ve always just used old fashioned oats for granola :).

Another winning granola recipe from you! I did add a smidge of cinnamon and salt to my batch, but it really doesn’t need it. Thanks so much.
