Chocolate Mousse Pie is out of this world decadently delicious and it’s sure to wow the crowd this Thanksgiving! And finally for once the saying is true it’s this “as easy as pie.”

Chocolate Mousse Pie

A Heavenly Chocolate Pie

The filling is just made up of a few basic ingredients – chocolate chips, marshmallows, butter, milk, cream, vanilla. You know all the good things in life.

You don’t need to chop chocolate, you don’t need to gently heat or whip any eggs as in many mousse recipes, and you don’t eve need to make a pie crust!

I decided if we are going the Oreo crust route what’s the point in homemade right?

Chocolate Mousse Pie

So you see, this is definitely the pie you want to try this year right. Along with my Pumpkin Pie and Crumb-Topped Apple Slab Pie of course :). People need options, and three slices of pie on Thanksgiving.

If you’ve got people that love chocolate in your family they will go crazy over this pie. I know because I’m obsessed with chocolate and I was swooning over every single bite!

It’s fluffy. It’s rich. It’s oh so chocolatey. It’s sweet. It’s creamy. To sum it up it’s basically pie perfection.

And no one will ever need to know that it was the easiest pie out of all of the options available.

Can’t beat that – irresistibly delicious pie that is oh so easy to make. And it’s pretty too with the tonal variation in all the layers and those dainty little curls.

I mean it even makes a cheap aluminum disposable pie dish look special :).

Instructions

  • Add butter, milk, semi-sweet chocolate chips, bittersweet chocolate chips and marshmallows to a large saucepan.
  • Heat over low heat, stirring constantly until chocolate and marshmallows have melted (it will take a while for the marshmallows to melt, keep stirring).
  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla pour into a large mixing bowl and let cool, about 45 - 60 minutes (it should be about room temperature).
  • Whip 1 3/4 cups heavy cream (preferably in a chilled bowl) until very stiff peaks form. Fold into cool chocolate mixture.
  • Pour chocolate mixture into Oreo crust and spread into an even layer (if you don't want it as tall as mine is you can just reserve some of the mousse chilled in cups for later).
  • Chill in refrigerator 3 hours.
  • For the topping, whip remaining 1 cup cream with sugar (preferably in a cold mixing bowl) using an electric hand mixer until stiff peaks form.
  • Spread over pie, garnish with chocolate then cut into slices. Store pie in refrigerator.
  • *I've also made this successfully with 1 cup milk chocolate chips and 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips for more of a milk chocolate flavor vs. the regular dark chocolate flavor it has.
  • **To make chocolate shavings just run a vegetable peeler down the sides of a bar of chocolate.

Excellent! Made a mistake and left out 1/2 cup chocolate chips but still very and very rich.

I just need to say that when I made this pie I was expecting it to be a favorite of mine, was not expecting my family to request it for every holiday or special occasion. I officially make this pie more than any other pie, my family loves it so much. Holidays, birthdays, I’m making it for our Mother’s Day after Mother’s Day (my mom in law was sick for the actual day).

I personally do the recipe with milk chocolate and semi-sweet chips since I’m not a huge Dark Chocolate fan, but even my family who DO prefer Dark Chocolate still love it. This is really a delicious recipe and I highly recommend it.

Delicious! Couldn’t find the bittersweet chips so I just did semi. I can’t believe how easy this way, definitely becoming a staple for when I need to bring desserts for holidays.

this has been my go-to for the past 2 years and its going down as my all time favorite🙏🏻 ive made this recipe a good 20-30 times using both homemade crust and store bought, different proportions of chocolates and found i favor 75/75 semi to dark ( i use trader joes chocolate ) and the brand of marshmallows matter! krafts is the best brand and melts perfect compared to store brands ive used in a pinch. i also do a big batch of whipped cream and save a good cup or two on the side to add sugar free powdered sugar for the topping to “save a step”. it seems pointless to add sugarfree to it considering the amount of marshmallows and chocolate but its force of habit as this pie doesnt increase my diabetic dads sugar!

I haven’t had the pie yet, but I have had the filling by itself, about a quarter of a cup wouldn’t fit in the pie shell and that was not about to be thrown away, and it is amazing. I had to modify it slightly (the grocery store didn’t have the exact chocolate needed) but it tastes amazing. I made it for Easter tomorrow. I will never make a chocolate mousse another way. That would be perfect without the pie crust as well. We could only get graham cracker crust so I tipped it with crushed Oreos. So, so good. Thank you for sharing this recipe and Happy Easter!

I’m happy to hear it turned out perfect for you! Unfortunately I don’t have a way to share photos here.

The ingredients include 1/3 cup of milk but it’s not in the directions.
Do I use the 1/3 milk somewhere?

Is there an alternative for heavy cream? I love knowing Sri Lanka and heavy cream is sooo expensive ☹️

Unfortunately there isn’t a great substitute in this recipe for the heavy cream. Coconut cream wouldn’t whip up to peaks that are quite as stiff and stable.
