Chocolate Mousse Pie is out of this world decadently delicious and it’s sure to wow the crowd this Thanksgiving! And finally for once the saying is true it’s this “as easy as pie.”

Chocolate Mousse Pie

A Heavenly Chocolate Pie

The filling is just made up of a few basic ingredients – chocolate chips, marshmallows, butter, milk, cream, vanilla. You know all the good things in life.

You don’t need to chop chocolate, you don’t need to gently heat or whip any eggs as in many mousse recipes, and you don’t eve need to make a pie crust!

I decided if we are going the Oreo crust route what’s the point in homemade right?

Chocolate Mousse Pie

So you see, this is definitely the pie you want to try this year right. Along with my Pumpkin Pie and Crumb-Topped Apple Slab Pie of course :). People need options, and three slices of pie on Thanksgiving.

If you’ve got people that love chocolate in your family they will go crazy over this pie. I know because I’m obsessed with chocolate and I was swooning over every single bite!

It’s fluffy. It’s rich. It’s oh so chocolatey. It’s sweet. It’s creamy. To sum it up it’s basically pie perfection.

And no one will ever need to know that it was the easiest pie out of all of the options available.

Can’t beat that – irresistibly delicious pie that is oh so easy to make. And it’s pretty too with the tonal variation in all the layers and those dainty little curls.

Instructions

  • Add butter, milk, semi-sweet chocolate chips, bittersweet chocolate chips and marshmallows to a large saucepan.
  • Heat over low heat, stirring constantly until chocolate and marshmallows have melted (it will take a while for the marshmallows to melt, keep stirring).
  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla pour into a large mixing bowl and let cool, about 45 - 60 minutes (it should be about room temperature).
  • Whip 1 3/4 cups heavy cream (preferably in a chilled bowl) until very stiff peaks form. Fold into cool chocolate mixture.
  • Pour chocolate mixture into Oreo crust and spread into an even layer (if you don't want it as tall as mine is you can just reserve some of the mousse chilled in cups for later).
  • Chill in refrigerator 3 hours.
  • For the topping, whip remaining 1 cup cream with sugar (preferably in a cold mixing bowl) using an electric hand mixer until stiff peaks form.
  • Spread over pie, garnish with chocolate then cut into slices. Store pie in refrigerator.
  • *I've also made this successfully with 1 cup milk chocolate chips and 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips for more of a milk chocolate flavor vs. the regular dark chocolate flavor it has.
  • **To make chocolate shavings just run a vegetable peeler down the sides of a bar of chocolate.

Was delicious and turned out well on second try! Not super easy if you are a beginner to baking but if you want to make it easier for you or your kids, pre packaged whipped cream might be a good substitute! The heavy whipping cream was the biggest thing I struggled with and may be confusing for younger bakers.

Turned out delicious on our first try. Recipe was easy to follow. Thank you!!!

I made this the other night because I had heavy cream expiring and always wanted to try making mousse. This recipe came out better than I imagined!
I used 1 cup of Toll House semi sweet morsels and 1/2 cup of Hershy’s Special Dark chips. I melted everything in a double boiler instead of direct heat to limit the chance burning the chocolate. The mousse came out light and fluffy and not overly rich because I didn’t use bitter chocolate at all. This recipe has a LOT of room for adjustment and I’ll be using it as my benchmark for all future variations I make. This is a great recipe!!

Like you say the mousse may likely separate upon thawing but it might work ok to eat frozen if you have extra left.

    This pie looks delicious
It tell you how much whipping cream to use
But it doesn’t tell you the portion of the milk , marshmallows, butter, chips
    Vanilla

If you click the “recipe” button at the top or scroll down the page a little ways there’s a recipe box there with amounts. Enjoy!

Hi, I notice that in the Ingredients portion it says “1 3/4c whipping cream” and then in the Topping section it says just “heavy cream” not heavy WHIPPING cream. Should I get heavy whipping cream or just heavy cream. Thanks in advance!

Taste was perfect but the texture was slightly grainy. Any ideas what I did wrong? Maybe overheated the chocolate mixture? Or the brand of marshmallows I used? I tasted as I went and everything tasted good and I didn’t detect any texture until the pie was fully set up which is so weird to me. I really want to make this work it tastes so good!

Yes it sounds like maybe the chocolate overheated, sorry to hear that! What I would try next time is melting over a double boiler rather than directly in the saucepan for a more mild heating.

That’s a good idea. My brother makes a classic mousse and he thinks it’s possible I didn’t actually get the marshmallows hot enough to break the sugars down all the way. I would describe the texture when it set slightly like the outside of a marshmallow lol. I melted everything completely but I used a new gas stove so it melted very quickly (not slow like you described). I’m thinking about trying it with marshmallow cream since it has cream of tartar to prevent that from happening but not sure how it would set up.
