Chocolate Mousse Pie is out of this world decadently delicious and it’s sure to wow the crowd this Thanksgiving! And finally for once the saying is true it’s this “as easy as pie.”

Chocolate Mousse Pie

A Heavenly Chocolate Pie

The filling is just made up of a few basic ingredients – chocolate chips, marshmallows, butter, milk, cream, vanilla. You know all the good things in life.

You don’t need to chop chocolate, you don’t need to gently heat or whip any eggs as in many mousse recipes, and you don’t eve need to make a pie crust!

I decided if we are going the Oreo crust route what’s the point in homemade right?

Chocolate Mousse Pie

So you see, this is definitely the pie you want to try this year right. Along with my Pumpkin Pie and Crumb-Topped Apple Slab Pie of course :). People need options, and three slices of pie on Thanksgiving.

If you’ve got people that love chocolate in your family they will go crazy over this pie. I know because I’m obsessed with chocolate and I was swooning over every single bite!

It’s fluffy. It’s rich. It’s oh so chocolatey. It’s sweet. It’s creamy. To sum it up it’s basically pie perfection.

And no one will ever need to know that it was the easiest pie out of all of the options available.

Can’t beat that – irresistibly delicious pie that is oh so easy to make. And it’s pretty too with the tonal variation in all the layers and those dainty little curls.

I mean it even makes a cheap aluminum disposable pie dish look special :).

Try it this Thanksgiving and do let me know how you like it! I hope all of you have such a fun holiday!

Instructions

  • Add butter, milk, semi-sweet chocolate chips, bittersweet chocolate chips and marshmallows to a large saucepan.
  • Heat over low heat, stirring constantly until chocolate and marshmallows have melted (it will take a while for the marshmallows to melt, keep stirring).
  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla pour into a large mixing bowl and let cool, about 45 - 60 minutes (it should be about room temperature).
  • Whip 1 3/4 cups heavy cream (preferably in a chilled bowl) until very stiff peaks form. Fold into cool chocolate mixture.
  • Pour chocolate mixture into Oreo crust and spread into an even layer (if you don't want it as tall as mine is you can just reserve some of the mousse chilled in cups for later).
  • Chill in refrigerator 3 hours.
  • For the topping, whip remaining 1 cup cream with sugar (preferably in a cold mixing bowl) using an electric hand mixer until stiff peaks form.
  • Spread over pie, garnish with chocolate then cut into slices. Store pie in refrigerator.
  • *I've also made this successfully with 1 cup milk chocolate chips and 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips for more of a milk chocolate flavor vs. the regular dark chocolate flavor it has.
  • **To make chocolate shavings just run a vegetable peeler down the sides of a bar of chocolate.

Love to know you’ve liked this pie Karla! Thanks for leaving a review of it!

My marshmallow and chocolate mixture fused together… no way to fold in whipped cream. Was it because I used large marshmallows? Or maybe the chocolate seized? Help! I bought a bag of small marshmallows to try this again…any advice would be great!

Yes it was likely the large marshmallows, the mixture probably cooked too long. You can also lower temp slowly next time. I hope it turns out perfect!!

The ingredients call for 1/3 cup milk, but I don’t see it mentioned in the directions. I added it to my super think chocolate marshmallow mix and it fixed the problem immediately. Good luck.

Sorry you didn’t see it! I’m wondering how to make it a little more noticeable because I think a few people have had the same issue.

My son absolutely loves this pie. He’s 9. So did my niece and nephew, so did my brother (50) and my dad (73), and my in-laws. All adult women I speak to agree with me though: it’s “so rich, almost too much!” The 3rd time I made it (today) I divided the crust, mouse and whipped cream into 3 smaller glass bowls with straight sides and made little “trifles”. This was scoopable and easier to have a smaller portion in a small dish instead of a mess on a plate from trying to slice a thin sliver of creme pie (which is hard to do with real cream). When I made it as trifles, I also didn’t bake the crust. It was crumbly and tasty, and just the right amount. 3 dishes of 5 servings, so 15 servings total. The thing is you can still have a bigger scoop or seconds or an even smaller portion too, but if you don’t want a giant slice of pie, you can have a scoop of trifle in a little snack bowl. I made my own Oreo crust from 30 Oreos and 4 oz. of butter too. I don’t like store-bought crusts. Very good recipe. To clarify that the MILK gets added at the same time with the butter marshmallows and chocolate, (I also missed that at first today even though I made this twice last year!) the instructions should say “add butter, chocolate chips (both types), marshmallows and milk to saucepan”. This is the order I put them into the pan. I also made a double-boiler with a saucepan and an aluminum bowl. This makes it easier not to ruin by too much heat. :D thank you for this recipe. It’s my son’s favorite. His teacher told me that now he’s bragging to his class that I’m “basically a professional dessert maker”. Lol.

Going to make this right now. O got 2 pie crusts. Is this recipe for on I or 2 pies. I’m so excited!

When the chocolate and marshmallow are melted together, is it super thick? I may have messed this up, but its like a thick paste? Help.

It should still be fine (unless it was overheated and scorched) it will be somewhat thick. Let it cool and see what the texture is like and hopefully it’s works out ok.

    • Diane

I forgot the milk and it was very thick and I knew something was wrong. the 1/3 cup of milk makes all the difference in the world. I put mine back on the stove and heated the milk into it.

thoughts on making mousse cups out of this. pouring the mixture into cups followed by topping ( so no crust obviously) – making night before

    • Kika

Cool! I kinda did this, but like a “trifle”. I put unbaked Oreo crumble in the bottom. It was less intense than a whole giant slice of pie. It’s really rich like pots-de-creme! I should try it without the cookie like you did.

  • Rida

love it. DELICIOUS! Super simple. I like switching up recipes, but i have had this one requested over and over.

This chocolate mousse pie is to die for. Absolutely the best I have ever had. Love it!!

I love this pie and have been making it for 3-4 years now always with rave reviews. I call this French Silk pie around my house because it tastes just like a French Silk but without the tempered yolks which were of concern and why I gave this recipe a try. I have never made another chocolate pie recipe since. If you like French Silk pie you have to try this easy, delicious recipe!
